Sheikh ul Alam Airport commonly known simply as Srinagar Airport, is an airport in Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India It has been named after one of the greatest saints of Kashmir, Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, popularly known to Kashmiris as Sheikh-ul-Alam.
Currently the airport has undergone extensive renovations, including improving the runway, a new terminal for departure and arrival, air bridges and other operational facilities, and was inaugurated February 14, 2009 by an Air India flight from Dubai . It is also anticipated that regular international flights will operate out of Srinagar. At present, scheduled international flights operate only to Dubai. Seasonal Hajj pilgrimage charters to Jeddah also operated from Srinagar and regular scheduled flights to Jeddah are expected to start within the first half of 2009.
